general description

British Shorthair has a compact, proportional and powerful body, legs are medium-short, rounded feet, tail – thickening to the base, with a rounded tip. The head is round with wide-set eyes, round filled cheeks, a firm chin. Eyes medium-large, round and wide open, nose of medium width. The coat is short and very dense. Cats are much less massive in all respects compared to cats, have a much shorter jaw. Maturity reaches the age of 2 to 3 years.

Head: round and massive. The round face. Short, thick neck with a dense coat. The forehead is rounded with a small flat area at the top. The forehead should not be inclined.

Nose: medium, wide. The profile is slightly concave.

Chin: Well developed, level with nose and upper lip. A weak chin is considered a flaw.

Muzzle: round, with a touch-sensitive stop. A visible stop is considered a drawback.

Ears: Medium in size, set wide apart, rounded at the end. Must not distort the shape of the head.

Eyes: large, round, well open. Widely spaced.

Body: medium to large, firmly knocked down and powerful. The back of the case is wide. A long body is considered a disadvantage.

Legs: short to medium size, broad-boned and strong. Proportional to the body. Forelegs are straight.

British Shorthair cat. Body
Feet: rounded, strong. Fingers five on the front and four on the hind legs.

Tail: medium length, proportional to the body, thickened at the base, slightly conical, obtuse at the end.

Coat: short, very dense, elastic and hard to the touch. Not double (meaning undercoat, down layer). Soft coat, too long or light undercoat is considered a disadvantage.

Color: For a color with a pattern: 5 points for the color of the coat and 10 for the picture. Shading, smokiness and ebbs in monochrome colors, bi-color are not considered flaws.

Disqualification

Wrong eye color, green rim in the eyes of adult cats. Tail defects. Long or fluffy coat. Wrong number of fingers. Medallions and buttons in color. Wrong nose or paw pads. Any signs of illness or surgery. Curvature of the jaw, rare teeth or lack thereof.

Colors of Shorthair British cats (British Shorthair Colors)

White (WHITE): Pure white, no yellow. Eyes: deep sapphire blue, gold or copper. White with different eyes should have one eye of sapphire blue, and the second golden with equal color saturation. Nose and paw pads: pink.
Black (BLACK): Black, rust free, no white hairs. The nose is black. Pads are black or brown. Eyes are gold or copper without green rims.

Blue (BLUE): blue, better light blue, uniform. Equal darkish is preferable than light with transitions, shades over the body. Tabby (drawing) or white hairs are not allowed. The nose and pads are blue. Eyes are golden or copper.
Red (RED): deep brilliant red, uniform. White hairs not allowed. Nose and pads: brick red. Eyes are golden or copper. Disqualification: explicit tabby. (I’ll add from myself that the lack of a separate designation of the color “Red” in English has led to the fact that all red cats are called red in our country. Nevertheless, they remain red. By the way, not everything is clean with blue ones – they are still gray.)
Cream (CREAM): Light shades are preferable, the color is uniform throughout the body. White hairs not allowed. Nose and paw pads: pink. Eyes are golden or copper. Disqualification: explicit tabby.

Shades

Smoke (SMOKE): genetically dates back to the silver, non-agouti tabby variety of British Shorthair. The tops of the hairs can be any of the above (primary) colors, tortie or blue-cream color. The undercoat is white or pale silver, looking as contrasting as possible to the coat. Nose and paw pads: according to the color of the coat. Eyes are golden or copper.

Shaded (SHADED): genetically dates back to the silver color of the British Shorthair. The tips of the hairs and undercoat are very pale in color, approaching white. The coat should be shaded on the back, sides, head, ears and tail. The uniformity of tipping is more important than its contrast. Paw tipping decreases to the bottom, but the lower it is, the better. The chin, stomach and underside of the tail should be as pale as possible. Tipping can be any of the primary colors, tortie or blue-cream color. Nose and paw pads: according to the color of the coat. Mixed pink and red in tortoise and blue cream. Eyes: golden or copper without a green rim. For silver shaded silver, the rim is allowed.

Shaded Golden (SHADED GOLDEN): A non-silver version of a shaded color, in which the undercoat is a rich warm cream color, hairs with black or dark brown tips. The coat should be shaded on the back, sides, head, ears and tail. The chin, stomach and underside of the tail should be pale apricot in color. Nose: brick color, transition to black or dark brown is allowed. Pads: black or dark brown. Green eyes.

Nose, pads and eyes in the primary color of the tabby.
Van Tabby with White (VAN TABBY AND WHITE): White with colored patches on the head, tail and legs. Color stains according to the definition of the main pattern (classic, marble, spotted, with a pattern). One or two small spots on the body are allowed.
